The low-budget agreement is now called the Low-Budget Theatrical Agreement (« LBA »), and the prices of the daily and weekly main actors are set at 65% of the scale of the basic agreement and increased each year with the scale (daily rate of $653 and weekly rate of $2267 until 06/30/20). The AMLA remains limited to projects with a first theatrical release, with budgets of over $700,000, but no more than $2,000,000. There are still a variety of casting incentives. In an effort to stimulate theatrical production by independent producers who no longer found the previous low-budget cap of $7 million realistic, the low-budget cap will immediately increase to $8.5 million and over $9 million on January 1, 2006. In turn, participating producers recognized that teams willing to work on low-budget productions should have decent working conditions and agreed to improve rest periods and meal arrangements. Agreed increases in wages and benefit contributions will keep rates of pay in line with the cost of living and support the sustainability of health and pension schemes for workers working on new low-budget productions.
